For over 50 years, the Minox 35 compact design and performance made this the most popular German 35mm compact, used by professionals as their backup-camera where all else fails. By using the tiny 35mm F2.8 lens with a tessar design, sharpness was exceptional when launched. A coating upgrade was done in 1994 - Minoxar.
Finding contemporary reviews of the Minox 35 Camera is not easy. By the late 1990s there were a small number of reviews by magazines: here is one from Shutterbug. Reviews from when the camera was current are more useful than today's coverage: older reviews compare with the cameras available at the time. F5.6 and F8 pro
Geoffrey Crawley writes that the performance of the 35mm Minotar "At full aperture it is acceptably sharp across the whole frame with the centre giving very good detail,. and at F4 the whole frame is really sharp and the results are of a professional quality. Further stopping down brings in still finer detail and between f/5.6 and f/8 really microscopic detail is well defined. There is very little fall off at f/16
Before opening the camera, set the distance setting to around 15 feet, and f/5.6 to f//8. or set yo 6 feet if near shots are expected. This way you can ready for camera for instantaneous operation.
