Overview

Follow these instructions to ensure your film, cassettes or camera arrive safely and clear customs for repair or processing. Use the country pages for specific export/import notes.

Packing checklist

  1. Order summary: include a printed order sheet with your name, email, phone and return address.
  2. Film cassettes: place each cassette in a small sealed plastic bag, then into a padded envelope or small box.
  3. Cameras: remove loose accessories, secure moving parts, wrap in bubble wrap and place in a rigid box with internal padding.
  4. Label inside: include a copy of the order inside the parcel so customs or our team can identify contents if the outer paperwork is separated.
  5. Seal and mark: seal the parcel securely and mark it clearly with your return address and our workshop address.
  6. Tracking and insurance: use tracked shipping; insure high value items and retain the tracking number.

Customs wording and commercial invoice

For international shipments use the wording below on the commercial invoice and customs form to reduce the chance of import VAT or duties on return.

Suggested commercial invoice text

HS Code: 9006.59
Declared value: £10.00 (technical value for customs)
Reason for export: TEMPORARY EXPORT — REPAIR AND RETURN

If your country has a specific temporary export procedure, follow that guidance and include any required reference numbers on the paperwork.

Shipping options and recommendations

  • UK domestic — Royal Mail Tracked 48 or Special Delivery for high value items.
  • EU — national postal services are often predictable for customs handling; use tracked and insured services.
  • ROW — contact us before shipping for a recommended courier and an estimate for return shipping and insurance.
  • Avoid — couriers that routinely add brokerage fees unless you accept those charges.

Fragile items and high value material

For cameras with historic or high monetary value, email photos and a short description before shipping so we can advise on packing and insurance. We recommend insured courier return for items over £250.

Returns and timelines

Standard turnaround for processing and simple servicing is 5–7 working days from receipt. Complex repairs and restorations are quoted after inspection and may take longer. We will contact you with an estimate before proceeding.
