Repairs — Global (Rest of World)
This page provides guidance for customers outside the UK and EU, including the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Asia, Middle East and Africa. All repairs are processed in the United Kingdom.
Global Reach
I regularly receive Minox cameras and heritage media items from customers worldwide, including:
- 🇺🇸 United States
- 🇨🇦 Canada
- 🇦🇺 Australia
- 🇳🇿 New Zealand
- 🇯🇵 Japan
- 🇨🇳 China
- 🇸🇬 Singapore
- 🇭🇰 Hong Kong
- 🇰🇷 South Korea
- 🇮🇳 India (occasional)
- 🇿🇦 South Africa (rare)
Customs Declaration (Universal)
Please declare the item as:
- “Camera for repair — returning to owner”
- Value: £10–£20 (technical, non-commercial value)
- HS Code: 9006.59
- Mark clearly: “TEMPORARY EXPORT — REPAIR AND RETURN”
I will always try to return your repair in the original packaging where possible. This helps demonstrate to customs authorities that the item is a used camera returning to its owner after repair, not a new import.
Shipping Recommendations
- Use your national postal service (USPS, Canada Post, Australia Post, NZ Post, Japan Post, etc.)
- Avoid couriers that impose brokerage fees (UPS, FedEx, DHL)
- Use a rigid box with internal padding
- Include your name, email and a brief description of the fault
Return Shipping
Return shipping is via Royal Mail International Tracked unless otherwise arranged.
- USA/Canada: typically 5–10 days
- Australia/New Zealand: typically 7–14 days
- Asia/Middle East: typically 7–12 days
- Africa/South America: varies by region
Notes for United States Customers
- UK export surcharge: Royal Mail applies a fixed charge of approximately 10% of the declared value on all items sent to the USA. This is a UK-side fee and is applied regardless of US Customs decisions.
- US Customs duty: US Customs and Border Protection may apply an import duty on repaired photographic equipment when it re-enters the country. This charge is variable and depends on the officer and port of entry.
Declaring the item as “Camera for repair — returning to owner” and using a modest customs value (typically £10–£20) helps minimise both charges.
Notes for Canadian Customers
Canada Post and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) may apply GST/HST on repaired photographic equipment returning to Canada. This is assessed on the declared value and varies by province.
There is no UK-side export surcharge for items sent to Canada.
French-language guidance is available for customers in Québec.
