MINOX 8x11 film processing

The final processor, scanning and replacement film provider for Minox 8x11 film worldwide.

Not all vintage films can be processed for 8x11m. This is the exclusion list:-

  1. Minochome (tin 1960s)
  2. Minocolor (red/white/blue)
  3. Minocolor 2 (red/white blue) *except when marked C41
  4. Agfa CT17/18
  5. Agfa CN17/18

All other types are candidates for processing.

Update 12/2025: older black and white films (exposed, or used today) may be suitable for processing and recovery using  BENZOTRIAZOLE anti-fog solution. This can defog certain negatives

MINOX 8x11 printing

LED technology to print 8x11mm negatives with the quality and intention of Walter Zapp.

Walter Zapp was a smart cookie. He realised that the best print size for the Riga 'large copier'  was small: the original enlarger could print at 2.5 x 3.5 inches, with a special lens setting for the extra frame accessory for postcard-sized sized (A6) prints. Not for nothing that the VEF Minox could focus to A6 (0,2m) size.

Minox (VEF and GmbH) made enlargers of up to 9x8 cm because they realised the resolving power of the VEF and Complan lenses was so good that you could make a 10x8cm print with a 8x11mm negative. But this made for expensive enlargers.

The problem for me has been getting print quality as good as an analogue colour process used by Paarz and sometimes Minox until the early 2000's. Customers still complain that the modern prints from a digital scan are not as good as an analogue print from the 1990;'s.

And they are right.  Until now. We are testing prints made from scans with dedicated scanners or digital cameras but edited and  printed using Fuji Mini 3 Instax printers and devices. We think these will equal 3x2 inch enlarger prints from the VEF Enlarger. Instax prints are 1.8 x 2.4 inches, The smaller size means less grain and create visual acuity.

We will offer these as  an option for our prints. By using BW and colour paper we can tune negatives. It will not be cheap: Minox prints have always been dear, but it will be worth it.
