Cassette specification

New VEF Cassette Prototype

Proposed Specification

There will be two (2) models of cassette:

  • VEF, A, B, C,BL EC, EC-X, MX, Sharan
  • LX, CLX, TLX

This is to allow for support of the LX 'spring' release. .

The best features of past design with modern materials and assembly

The cassettes will feature top-caps with tape to fix top cap to bottom csse. The inner felt, will line the interior of both chambers both film chambers.

Using modern materials and the latest CNC milling tools, a new level of precision and strength can be realised. With plastic cassettes finite and fragile, and financially expensive, the new Hobbies Cassettes offer  a long-term solution for the committed Minox Photographer and their descendants.

Aluminium Casseette and Container

Both the cassette and container will be black anodised aluminium. Customers can order engravings on the case and (maybe) cassette as needed.

Improved design

Using modern materials and the latest CNC milling tools, a new level of precision and strength can be realoised. With plastic cassettes finite and fragile, the new Hobbies Cassettes offer  a lonm-term solution for the committed Minox Photographer. The cassette will be tested in all models, we expect the VEF Minox to be most difficult to load and especially unload.

Pricing

Pricing for the type 1 cassette (not LX) is expected ot be around £49. LX Cassettes are slightly more, as we have had to make a diferent cap to allow for support of the film-spring in the LX. A smart aliminium case is also included.

Emulsion support

We will load all popular film types in the cassette. Thicker slide flms and 50 exposure lengths for the B and the A cameras will be supported.

Did you know?

The first 36 exposure cassettes had the inset feed cap in 1968, but the spring to push into the csp to allow the film ot be easily released was only released ten years later in the MINOX LX. So was the inset feed cap designed to stop overliading 36 exposure cassettes with 50 exposure films? Maybe. Today's TMAX and DELTA films stop at about 45 exposures before the film on the spool side stops, and breaks the cassette..
