Overview
MS Hobbies provides careful, workshop‑based servicing for all Minox 8×11 cameras, from the Riga Minox through to the ECX. Servicing is carried out using appropriate tools, test equipment, and long‑term experience with the system. Each camera is assessed individually, and work is undertaken with the aim of preserving the instrument for long‑term use.
What a full service includes
- Complete mechanical inspection
- Shutter timing check and adjustment
- Transport mechanism cleaning and lubrication
- Optical cleaning where accessible
- Meter assessment (B, BL, C, LX models)
- Electronic checks on later models
- General cleaning and functional testing
Original components are retained wherever possible. Adjustments are made sympathetically to preserve the camera’s character and reliability.
Common issues addressed
- Shutter not firing or intermittent
- Slow or uneven shutter speeds
- Transport slip or drag
- Meter inoperative or inaccurate
- Focus or distance coupling issues
- Lens haze, dust, or fungus
- Age‑related stiffness or intermittent operation
Parts availability
Minox 8×11 cameras are no longer manufactured. Some parts remain available; others must be repaired, adjusted, or fabricated. Availability varies by model and production period. If a repair requires parts that are no longer obtainable, you will be advised before work proceeds.
Quotation process
- The camera is inspected on arrival.
- A quotation is provided based on the condition and required work.
- No work is undertaken without approval.
- If the quotation is declined, the camera is returned.
Turnaround time
Turnaround varies depending on model, condition, parts availability, and current workshop workload. An estimated timeframe is provided with the quotation. Cameras that have been unused for many years may require more extensive work.
Packing and shipping guidance
- Wrap the camera securely in bubble wrap.
- Use a rigid box, not a padded envelope.
- Include the Minox Camera Repair Form.
- Do not send film unless requested.
- Ensure the camera is protected from movement inside the box.
Return shipping is charged at cost. Cameras are returned using appropriate packaging to ensure safe transit.
