Launched at Photokina in 1974, MINOX's entry into the 35mm compact camera market stunned the Japanese and German competition. Although there were cameras of a similar size (Rollei 35) they were heavier and slower to use. The camera was updated in 1977 with film loading improvements
its size and wieght coupled with lens quality made the EL a market leader.
An update to the EL, this model added a backlight exposure button of +2 stops. Why 'G' -not sure! the German word for backlight starts with 'H'.
Minox improved the 35mm compact camera until 1998. As the first model, the Minox 35 EL was made o minimum specification. No backlight (added GL) or self-timer (added GT), or programmed mode (added PL), integrated flash (PE), fixed focus, automation (AL) or upgraded lens (GT-E, GT-S). So it should be and is the most reasonable Minox 35mm compact.
