Colour Prints from your Minox

We announce new print sizes for your Minox colour prints. Following feedback and checking our historical product offerings, we now offer the following classic sizes when processing and scanning your films

  1. 2.5 x 3.5 inches (6.35 x 8.89 cm) prints + £3.99 to order
  2. 3.25 x 4.5 inches ( 8.25 x11.43 cm) prints + £4.99 to order
  3. 4 x 5 inches ( 10.16 x 12.7cm) prints + £5.99 to order

All prints will be printed on a 6 x 4" paper. This means the border size will surround the print and can be trimmed.

Why? This is minimise the grain in the print and highlight the sharpness. With colour films especially this is a problem. For black and white we offer only manual prints from a Minox Black and White enlarger. This is because modern scanners cannot remove dust spots automatically.

The faster the film the smaller the recommended print size. Remember, acceptable print resolution is 300 dpi. Screen resolution is much less.

November 1980: 110 Retrospective: "Which?"

In November 1980 "Which" Magazine ran a Global Report on testing 50 x 110 Cameras. The results provide a good indication to future generations about which cameras were highly thought of at the time.

Some of the more telling conclusions:

The majority of these cameras were not capable of taking a correctly-exposed picture outdoors on a cloudy day using 100 ASA film

Good but Pricey

Canon 110 ED "Excellent results"

Price 1980 £100
Price 2018 inflation adjusted £482
Price ebay 2018 £20-40

Judgement: Caution. most ebay sellers are offering their 110 ED's 'untested' .

Problems: none in camera I have tried

Pros: superb f2 lens and excellent rangefinder

Cons: size.

Film Speed Recommendation by Canon: 80 ASA. Note: you have to use the 110 ED 20 for 80 and 400 ASA film. This is a different camera!

Minox 110S "Very good results...very expensive"

Price 1980 £111
Price 2018 inflation adjusted £535
Price ebay 2018 £30-100

Judgement: When they work they are superb only the Canon, Kodak 60 and the Minox had a rangefinder.

Problems: film wind-on does not advance the film 80% of the time. Have to bang camera in palm of the hand to get the gears to engage.

Pros: superb f2 lens and excellent rangefinder

Film Speed Recommendation by Minox: 64 ASA and 400 ASA. So lomography film (100/200) will over expose either way on the setting.

29-JUL-2018: Slides are King

Use a Minox projector to project your slides for your digital camera to copy the projection. The results would be excellent, as you are copying from a large projection to a smaller sensor: a de-enlargement.

21-JUL-2018:
New Ultra-fast Colour Fuji Film for Minox 8x11

The resurgence of interest in film especially in Japan, has seen Fuji re-market high speed Superia film. Although only on sale in Japan, we have bought some 35mm film in from our colleagues at Aperture and cut it down for MINOX 8x11mm format cameras.

  • Superia 800 ASA in stock £10.99
  • Superia 1600 ASA in stock £11.99

It is recommended that you meter manually for this film as the automatic metering cameras cannot meter past 400 ASA. Indoor, obviously, restaurant interiors, sports halls, and streets at night. Remember you use the MInox at 1/20th of a second with minimal camera shake as it has a 15mm focal length.
